The old Dnd starter kits had uniquely colored dice, but buying multiple sets of that is definitively ideal. The only place i saw discuss it was in Planet Apocalypse, but those dice are months away. The ones I’d think of as ideal are a rainbow spectrum, which I think will be the pattern for hyperspace? Or close to it at least: d4 red d6 orange d8 yellow d10 green d12 blue d20 violet If I can get the runic d4 (on Amazon it rolls more like a d6) made in red, it would be so worth it to build this set.

The first D&D Basic set I got had regular uniquely colored dice. Every other D&D box I've seen in person, from both people that bought theirs before and after mine, came with really cheap lightweight plastic single colored dice and a black crayon. The numbers were cut in the dice but you had to rub the crayon on every side to fill the numbers in with wax so you could see them. I've always wondered why I got a nice set and others came with the cheap dice but I've never bothered to look into it.
