Hello, I recently purchased a Wii. I read that it uses SD memory cards. I have two questions. Can it use any SD memory cards or only the ones that companies write Wii on the card?
What are some of the good uses for the SD card? I understand that some games will allow you to play music off of the card. With that being said, I purchased an SD card that was listed as HC (high capacity) 4gb. I wanted a lot of space for a lot of songs since I plan on using it for playing music in my Garmin GPS device as well. My Garmin read the card fine and plays the music, but the Wii does not recognize the card. Any thoughts? Mostly I back stuff up to the SD card.

Especially if you get a channel that you don't think you'll use agaain, it's easier to send to the SD card then delete then it is having to redownload it if you want it back. The save game thing is awesome.
Here is how it works. Let's say you are renting Ghost Squad, there isn't any way you can play it enough times to unlock stuff before it goes back, even if your wrists would hold out. So what you do is start up Ghost Squad, have it make a save game on the Wii. Then go back to the Wii Menu and go to Data Management. Find that save game and send it to the SD card. Go to GameFAQs and download the savegame that matches your region and what you want. Copy that bin file over to the SD card, changing it's name to match what the original save file name was (over writing the original).
Now put the SD card back in your Wii, delete the save file out of the Wii memory, browse to the SD card and copy the save file from the SD card to the Wii memory. Start the game back up and you are playing the new save game. While this sounds convaluted and confusing, in essence it is easy and intuitive (at least if you are used to computers). It's also the easiest method I've ever seen of sharing saved files (don't know about current gen, Wii is the only current gen box I have so far).
PS: I haven't actually don't this with Ghost Squad yet, but I'm sure it would work. While I have done it, and I use PCs everyday, it is far from easy.
It's only more convenient than last-gen because it uses a standard removeable storage device rather than a proprietary memory card. In terms of actual file format though, it's a step backwards, as -all- save files for a title are stored in one package, which you can't rename. That means no picking and choosing of save slots, no backing up of saves from particular dates, as new backups will automatically overwrite the file (at least without using a PC to rename it, in which case, the Wii would simply not see it). It's completely unintuitive. Originally posted by Mogbert: Mostly I back stuff up to the SD card.
